What is a ceiling rose and what does it do?

A ceiling rose is a decorative and functional plate that attaches to your ceiling. It serves multiple purposes: it conceals electrical junction boxes and wiring connections, provides a professional finished appearance, and acts as a secure mounting point for light fixtures, chandeliers, and pendant lights. Ceiling roses create a distinctive aesthetic detail that elevates any interior style.

What weight can a ceiling rose support?

Most standard ceiling roses with cord grips are rated to safely support loads up to 5kg (approximately 12 lbs). This makes them suitable for most pendant lights, chandeliers, and decorative fixtures. Always ensure that screws are securely fastened into ceiling joists for maximum support. If you have heavier fixtures, check the specific product specifications before purchasing.

What sizes are ceiling roses available in?

Ceiling roses come in various sizes to suit different aesthetic preferences and fixture requirements: Small (75-100mm diameter) – Perfect for compact spaces and delicate fixtures. Medium (108-120mm diameter) – Most popular for standard residential use. Large (140-200mm diameter) – Ideal for chandeliers and statement pieces. Rectangular – Modern options for unique design installations.

What materials are ceiling roses made from?

Our ceiling roses are manufactured from high-quality metal with various finish options including: Plated metal, Metallic iron with plating, Brass (Yellow Brass, Rose Gold), Copper, Chrome, Satin Nickel, and Black finishes. The metal construction ensures durability, rust resistance, and a professional appearance. All finishes are designed to complement different interior styles from vintage and industrial to modern and Scandinavian aesthetics.

What's included in the package?

Standard packages typically include: 1 x Ceiling rose (with your selected finish and style), a complete set of mounting screws, cord grip nuts and washers (for most models), a ceiling bracket with fitting accessories, and installation instructions and hardware kit.

How do I install a ceiling rose?

Installation requires several important steps: Turn off electricity at the mains before beginning work. Locate ceiling joists using appropriate tools. Securely fasten screws into the ceiling joists (not just plasterboard). Install mounting bracket and thread electrical wires through the centre hole. Attach the ceiling rose using provided fasteners. For safety, always refer to included installation instructions or consult a qualified electrician.

Are ceiling roses suitable for both indoor and outdoor use?

Most ceiling roses are designed for indoor installation. However, we do offer specially designed rainproof ceiling roses that can be used in semi-outdoor areas such as covered patios, porches, and balconies where they have protection from direct weather exposure. Standard ceiling roses should only be installed in indoor environments for durability and safety.

Do ceiling roses come with earth tags for UK wiring compliance?

Yes, many of our ceiling roses feature riveted construction with integrated earth tags and earth lead wires included. These are designed specifically for UK wiring compliance and secure grounding. This ensures your installation meets current electrical safety standards. Always verify the specific product includes this feature before purchase if UK compliance is required.

What's the difference between single-point and multi-point ceiling roses?

Single-point (or hook) ceiling roses feature one mounting point and are ideal for suspending a single pendant light or chandelier. Multi-point ceiling roses have multiple cord grips and are designed for hanging several pendant lights in a cluster arrangement, creating a more complex, visually striking lighting design. Both types provide the same professional finish and load-bearing capacity.

What interior styles do ceiling roses complement?

Our ceiling roses are available in finishes and styles to complement virtually any interior design aesthetic: Industrial & Vintage – Brass, copper, and black finishes. Modern & Contemporary – Chrome, satin nickel, and clean lines. Retro & Scandinavian – Minimalist designs in neutral tones. Traditional & Country – Rose gold and brass finishes. Transitional – Versatile finishes that bridge multiple styles.

Are ceiling roses compatible with all light fixtures?

Ceiling roses are designed to be universally compatible with most lighting fixtures including pendant lights, chandeliers, multi-arm spider fittings, and wall-mounted fixtures. They work with standard UK lighting chains and flex cables. The centre hole accommodates standard 10mm cord grip nuts, and the hole size is consistently designed across our range. If you have a specific fixture type, please verify the specifications match before purchase.

What is a cord grip and how does it work?

A cord grip is a fitting that securely holds the electrical cable or chain as it passes through the ceiling rose. It provides both mechanical support and prevents the cable from pulling through, ensuring safe suspension of your light fixture. Cord grips are typically made of metal with an adjustable nut that tightens around the cable. Most of our ceiling roses come with cord grip nuts and washers included, and they're compatible with 10mm standard cables.

Why is it important to screw into ceiling joists?

Ceiling joists provide the structural support necessary to safely hold the weight of your light fixture and ceiling rose. Screwing only into drywall or plasterboard will not provide adequate support and could result in the fixture falling. This is a critical safety requirement. Always locate joists before installation and ensure all fasteners are driven securely into the wooden joists for maximum stability and safety.

How should I care for and maintain my ceiling rose?

Ceiling roses require minimal maintenance to maintain their appearance: Dust regularly with a soft cloth to prevent dust accumulation. For metal finishes, use appropriate cleaners specific to the finish type (e.g., brass cleaner for brass finishes). Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the finish. Periodically check fasteners to ensure they remain tight. For outdoor-use ceiling roses, inspect regularly for corrosion or damage.

Why might colors appear different from product photos?

Variations in monitor calibration, lighting conditions, and photography settings can affect how colors appear in product images. The actual color of your ceiling rose may differ slightly from what you see on screen. This is particularly true for metallic finishes like brass, copper, and rose gold, which are affected by ambient lighting. We recommend reviewing product specifications carefully and, if possible, checking color samples before finalizing your purchase. Always confirm your color selection before ordering.

What happens if my fixture is heavier than the weight capacity?

If your light fixture exceeds the 5kg weight capacity, the ceiling rose may not provide adequate support and could pose a safety risk. For heavier fixtures (such as large crystal chandeliers), you should consult a qualified electrician who can recommend appropriate heavy-duty mounting solutions. Never attempt to install fixtures that exceed the rated weight capacity, as this could result in the fixture falling.
