Where to Use Fabric Flex?

Pendant Lighting

Create stunning drop lights where the cable is a visible design feature. Perfect for high ceilings and kitchen islands.

Vintage Restorations

Replace dangerous, brittle wiring in antique lamps with period-correct fabric flex that meets modern safety standards.

Industrial Swagging

Use cable hooks to "swag" lights from the canopy to different areas of the room, creating an exposed, loft-style look.

Multi-Drop Chandeliers

Bundle multiple cables together to create spider lights or cluster pendants for a dramatic focal point.

⚠️ Important Installation Notes
  • Professional Install: All electrical work should comply with BS 7671 IEE Wiring Regulations. If unsure, hire a qualified electrician.
  • Strain Relief: Always use cable grips (cord grips) at both the ceiling rose and lamp holder to prevent strain on the electrical connections.
  • Preparation: When stripping fabric cable, use a small piece of tape around the cut area to prevent the fabric braid from fraying.
  • Testing: Always test connections with a multimeter before switching the mains power back on.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 2-core and 3-core cable?
2-core cable contains Live and Neutral wires. It is used for plastic or ceramic fittings that do not require earthing (Double Insulated).
3-core cable contains Live, Neutral, and Earth. It is required for any metal light fittings (gold, brass, chrome) to ensure safety against electrical shock.
How do I choose between round and twisted styles?
Round cables offer a smoother, more modern or minimalist look. They are easier to clean and thread through rods.
Twisted cables provide a textured, authentic vintage look, perfect for retro lamps, exposed bulb pendants, and period properties.
Can I cut the cable to any length?
Yes. Our cables are sold in lengths of 1m, 3m, 5m, and 10m, but they can be easily cut to size using standard wire cutters/strippers. Remember to tape the fabric end before cutting to stop fraying.
Is this cable compatible with LED dimmers?
The cable itself carries the power and is fully compatible with dimmable circuits. However, you must ensure your light bulb and dimmer switch are compatible with each other.
