What is conduit lighting?

Conduit lighting is an industrial-style lighting fixture where wiring runs through, or is designed to appear as though it runs through, exposed metal pipe. The tubing becomes part of the fixture's visual design and is commonly used in industrial, vintage, and steampunk interior styles.

Are these lights ready to install, or do I need to build them myself?

Both options are available. Some products, such as pendant and wall light kits, come as complete ready-made fittings, while separate pipes, connectors, and cage components allow you to create a custom DIY conduit lighting design.

What bulb fitting do conduit lights use?

Most conduit lighting fixtures use an E27 (Edison Screw) bulb fitting. Some spotlight-style products may use GU10 or E14 fittings, so always check the product specification before purchasing bulbs.

Can I install a conduit light myself, or do I need an electrician?

Replacing a like-for-like light fitting in the same location can generally be completed by a competent DIYer. However, new circuits or wiring extensions must be installed by a qualified Part P electrician under UK Building Regulations. Plug-in conduit lights do not require professional electrical installation.

What's the difference between 20mm and 3/4" conduit fittings in this range?

20mm is the metric standard used across many conduit pipes and connectors, while 3/4 inch (BSP) is an imperial thread size used on some fittings and wire cage components. Bush reducers can be used to adapt between different sizes.

Are conduit/nautical wall lights suitable for outdoor or bathroom use?

Not automatically. Standard conduit and nautical-style wall lights are not always rated for wet environments. For bathrooms or outdoor areas, choose a fitting with a suitable IP rating, such as IP44 or higher, and check each product's individual specifications.
