What is a constant voltage transformer?

A constant voltage transformer is a power supply that delivers a steady output voltage, such as 12V or 24V DC, to LED lighting systems, regardless of load changes. It converts standard mains AC voltage to low-voltage DC and is commonly used for LED strips, bulbs, and CCTV cameras.

What is the working principle of CVT?

A constant voltage transformer (CVT) works by regulating output voltage through electronic switching circuits that maintain a stable DC voltage despite fluctuations in input or load. It ensures consistent brightness and prevents LED flicker by stabilising the voltage supplied to the lighting system.

What is the difference between CT and CVT?

A constant current transformer (CT) maintains a fixed current while varying voltage, suited for high-power LEDs like arrays. A constant voltage transformer (CVT) maintains fixed voltage (e.g., 12V/24V) and allows current to vary, ideal for parallel-connected LED strips and bulbs.

What is a CT transformer used for?

A constant current transformer (CT) is used to power LED modules that require precise current control, such as high-brightness LED arrays or linear LED fixtures, to prevent overheating and ensure uniform light output across multiple diodes.

What is a Constant Voltage Transformer CVT?

A Constant Voltage Transformer (CVT) is an LED driver that provides a stable output voltage, typically 12V or 24V DC, to power multiple LED loads in parallel. It is commonly used in low-voltage lighting applications like strip lights and security cameras.

Can I use a constant voltage transformer for LED strip lighting?

Yes, constant voltage transformers are ideal for LED strip lighting, as strips are designed to operate at fixed voltages like 12V or 24V. Ensure the transformer’s wattage exceeds the strip’s total power draw; see https://ledsone.co.uk/products/dc24v-ip67-100w-waterproof-led-driver-power-supply-transformer for a suitable 24V option.
