Sits close to the ceiling with a 10 cm x 2.5 cm ceiling plate. A good fit for hallways, landings and small rooms.
Flush, semi-flush and cage ceiling lights with standard E27 holders, made for UK homes and fitted in minutes. Find the right size, brightness and finish below, then shop the range.
The same four checks work for a hallway fitting or a dining room pendant.
Under 2.4 m (8 ft), choose flush. From 2.4 m, choose semi-flush or a pendant.
Add the room’s length and width in feet and read the total as inches. Big rooms can take two or three fittings.
Our holders are E27. Check the maximum wattage, choose lumens for the room, and pick a dimmable bulb if you want to dim.
Bathrooms need a suitable IP rating. Kitchens need brighter light and task lighting at the worktop.
Flush lights hug the ceiling. Semi-flush lights drop a hand’s width. Pendants hang on a cable and suit higher ceilings or the space above a table.
| Type | Best for | Ceiling height | Try |

Each room asks for a different amount of light. Start with the guide, then open the room’s collection.
Choose flush fittings where ceilings are low and people walk underneath. Most hallways need around 800 to 1,500 lumens in total, so use two fittings rather than one dim one.
Kitchens need the most light of any room, so combine a bright ceiling fitting with task lighting at the worktop. Hang a pendant about 80 cm above a table or island.
Aim for about 100 to 150 lumens per m², then add bedside lamps for reading. A dimmable E27 bulb makes one fitting work for both daytime and bedtime.
Layer the ceiling light with floor and table lamps. For wider rooms, a multi-outlet fitting or a pair of pendants spreads light more evenly than one large shade.
Use these as planning guides. Your own ceiling colour, daylight and lamps will move the numbers.
| Room | Floor area | Fixture width |
|---|---|---|
| 10 x 10 ft | about 9 m² | 20 in (51 cm) |
| 12 x 14 ft | about 16 m² | 26 in (66 cm) |
| 14 x 18 ft | about 23 m² | 32 in (81 cm) |
Length plus width in feet, read as inches. A single 30 cm dome suits rooms of 5 to 10 m². For larger rooms, add a second fitting or use multi-outlet lighting.
| Room | Guide | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Bedroom | 100-150 lm/m² | 12 m²: 1,200-1,800 lm |
| Living room | 100-150 lm/m² | 20 m²: 2,000-3,000 lm |
| Kitchen | 300+ lm/m² | 10 m²: 3,000+ lm |
| Hallway | in total | 800-1,500 lm |
A 60 W-equivalent LED bulb gives about 800 lumens, so one bulb lights roughly 5 to 8 m² at living-room levels. Share the total between ceiling light and lamps.
The fitting decides the cap. The bulb decides the colour, the brightness and whether you can dim.
Our ceiling lights use E27 holders. Choose from E27 base bulbs, LED bulbs or filament styles that show off a cage or open shade.
Several fittings list a maximum of 60 W. LED bulbs use far less power, so you can still reach the lumens you need well below that limit.
A dimmable LED bulb and a compatible dimmer switch work together. Mixing a dimmable bulb with a standard switch will not dim.
IP ratings show protection against dust and water. IP44 is the usual minimum near a bath or shower, and some retailers advise IP65 directly above one. Fittings marked IP20 are for dry rooms. Confirm your bathroom zone with a qualified electrician.
A ceiling rose, ceiling rose bracket and the right cable make fitting tidy. Our installation guide walks through it. If you are unsure, use a qualified electrician.
Metal shades come in black, brass, copper, rose gold and bright colours. Pick one finish across the room and repeat it on wall lights and pendants.
Short answers to what shoppers ask us most. More in our customer FAQ.
A flush ceiling light sits tight against the ceiling. A semi-flush light drops about 10 to 20 cm on a short stem, so more light bounces off the ceiling as well as down into the room. Flush suits low ceilings. Semi-flush suits standard-height rooms. See our ceiling flush-mount lights.
Choose a flush mount fitting if your ceiling is under about 2.4 m (8 ft). It leaves the most head height and still takes a standard E27 bulb. For ceilings from 2.4 m up, a semi-flush or a short pendant gives you a little more presence in the room.
Add the room length and width in feet. The total, read as inches, is a good fixture width: a 12 ft x 14 ft room suits a fitting about 26 inches (66 cm) wide. You can reach that size with one large shade or with a group of smaller ones, such as our multi-outlet lighting.
As a planning guide, living rooms and bedrooms need about 100 to 150 lumens per m². Kitchens and bathrooms need more, often 300 lumens per m² or above. A 60 W-equivalent LED bulb gives roughly 800 lumens, so a 12 m² bedroom needs about two such bulbs in total, spread across ceiling and lamps.
E27 is the standard 27 mm Edison screw cap used on most UK pendant and ceiling fittings with a screw holder. Any E27 LED, filament or incandescent bulb that fits the shade and stays under the fitting’s maximum wattage will work. Browse E27 base bulbs or LED bulbs.
Yes, where the product page says so. You need a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer switch, and both must work together. The fitting alone does not dim. See our dimmable LED bulbs.
Only if its IP rating suits the bathroom zone. IP44 is the usual minimum near a bath or shower, and some retailers advise IP65 directly above one. Fittings marked IP20 are for dry rooms. Ask a qualified electrician to confirm the zone before you buy.
Many fittings offer a with-bulb or without-bulb option, for a few pounds difference. Choose the option on the product page. Our lamp holders take any E27 bulb, so you can also buy a bulb separately.
Swapping a like-for-like fitting on an existing ceiling rose is usually straightforward for a competent person with the power off at the consumer unit. New wiring, new circuits and bathroom work should be done by a qualified electrician. Our installation guide shows the steps.
